With its own mill, the San Mart\u00edn Hacienda became an important supplier of grain for the valleys of Mexico and Toluca.<\/p><p>Among its first owners are great figures, such as Diego Carrillo de Mendoza y Pimentel, Marquis of Gelves and Count of Priego, who served as Viceroy of New Spain from 1621 to 1624.<\/p><p>In 1810, during the War of Independence, the ground of the Hacienda San Mart\u00edn vibrated with the roar of royalist cannons. Very close to the hacienda, the legendary Battle of Monte de las Cruces took place, where the insurgents achieved one of their greatest victories. Later, the San Mart\u00edn Hacienda was devastated by groups of revolutionaries commanded by Emiliano Zapata. As the Zapatistas passed by, a large part of the hacienda's hull burned down\u2014as did the old train station\u2014and the fields were left unavailable. Fortunately, a section that withstood the rigors of war better is the parish.<\/p><p>Currently, this church serves as rectory for the chapels of the region by decree of Bishop Francisco Javier Chaboya Ramos.
